After successfully installing Ubuntu on my PC, I want to install KDE 4 Desktop to it. KDE 4.2.2 (that will be installed) have a beautyfull appearance even a little slow than GNOME for an old machine.

Now, let’s to the point :p

To install entire KDE 4 environment, just type this on terminal:

$ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

please be patient, the installation will be take a long time, depend on your connection speed

To Enter the KDE4 Desktop, just reboot/logout the system, change the session to KDE . . :

Optional:

1. If you might change the GDM to KDM as our default window login

   

just type this on terminal:

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm

and choose the KDM as a default:

1. Because my KDE application are not “arranged” in the gnome menu, I very recommend, that we’ve install gnome-menu-extended to make the KDE application have bundled in new sub menu on gnome menu (download here)

Gnome2 globalmenu is an application or applet that make our gnome application menubar to be sticky with panel like the Mac OSX one. More info about gnome2 globalmenu

Here is the simple steps to install it on Ubuntu 9.04 jaunty:

Edit the sources.list:

$ sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

Add the globalmenu repo lines:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/globalmenu-team/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/globalmenu-team/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Download and enable the GPG key

$ wget http://gnome2-globalmenu.googlecode.com/files/GlobalMenuKey.gpg && sudo apt-key add GlobalMenuKey.gpg

Update the software list and install the globalmenu:

$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gnome-globalmenu

Just right click the panel add the globalmenu applet . .

Berikut adalah cara mengganti CD key yang aktif pada Windows XP. Hal ini biasanya diperlukan ketika kita hendak memasang aplikasi update dari Microsoft (misal Windows Media Player 11) yang membutuhkan validasi “keaslian” Windows kita.

1. Buka Registry Editor untuk menonaktifkan aktifasi produk :

Start > Run > Regedit

2. Segera ke direktori:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents

lalu klik pada OOBETimer dan ganti FF menjadi 00

Kemudian reaktifasi dengan CD key yang baru,

Start > Run > C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a


3. Pilih Activate Windows lalu Change Product key dan masukkan CD-Key baru.

3. After that, kill the nautilus to restart it. so the DropBox will appeared on notification tray

4. To Start the DropBox, right click the icon and select “Start DropBox”. After a moment, the DropBox will started.

So the DropBox is ready to be used!!

nb:

• if the DropBox not stared, try restart X if kill nautilus not working.
• don’t forget to check the proxy setting

and check that your accout has enabled :p

• the DropBox “working directory” is $HOME/Dropbox by default

To compress a rar archive in multiple parts, just do a command below:

$ rar a -vSIZE ARCHIVE.rar FILES/FOLDER

nb:

- SIZE in K is kilobyte, M in megabyte, etc

- ARCHIVE.rar is the archive name, it will be ARCHIVE.part1.rar ARCHIVE.part2.rar etc as the results.

- FILES/FOLDER is the file or folder that we want to add to archive

Akhir-akhir ini, cukup banyak para pengguna yang beralih ke dokumen Office 2007 (.docx, dll). Bagi kita sebagai pengguna OpenOffice.org mungkin akan sedikit tidak “nyaman” dengan hal itu. Hingga artikel ini dibuat, OpenOffice.org 2.4 hanyalah bisa mengimport dokumen Office 2007 (itupun dengan hasil yang kurang baik) dan tidak bisa menyimpannya dalam format aslinya.

Tetapi jangan khawatir, sebuah situs bernama OpenOffice Ninja telah membuat semuanya menjadi mungkin (lebayyyyy . . :p). Kita cukup memasang paket odf-converter-integrator sesuai platform OpenOffice.org kita, maka OpenOffice.org kita bisa mengimport file Office 2007 dengan baik dan juga menyimpannya dalam format tersebut!! Terima kasih untuk tim OpenOffice Ninja, karena berkat mereka saya tidak jadi “murtad” untuj membuka file kuliah teman saya yang berbentuk *.docx. (hwe he he he)

Berikut adalah langkah-langkah pemasangan untuk Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy i386 (versi Intrepid/Jaunty kemungkinan juga tetap bisa)

Today, some user is migrating to a new format of Office 2007 document ( .docx, etc) by Microsoft, Inc. If you’re an OpenOffice.org user, you might be a little “uncomfort” with this. Until I wrote this article, OpenOffice.org (in 2.4 version release) comes with the ability to open it, but not can’t save it in it’s original format.

But, . . don’t worry be happy . .!! There’s an useful package to be installed in our box. Big thanks to the odf-converter-integrator packages creator on the OpenOffice Ninja website. They makes our OpenOffice.org 2.4 become a fully supported Office 2007 even more!! (remember that the Openoffice.org is opensource and have more supported filetype).

Here is a simple steps. (I’m used Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy i386)

$ wget http://katana.oooninja.com/f/software/odf-converter-integrator_0.2.2_i386.deb

$ sudo apt-get install libgif4 libungif4g

$ sudo dpkg -i

A question, “I have a different OS with OpenOffice.org installed!! what should I do? ”

An answer, “Just go to download home, you’ll be noticed by the number of installer version ( include for OpenOffice.org for Windows ) download and install your choice”

The following message are appeared after I upgrading my Hardy:

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly.

The last error message was:

Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-n9Y8sWjrkS: Connection refused

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.

It’s always appeared every system log in. My desktop appearance is look so bad. But when I reinstalling dbus, dbus-x11 and purging some setting (like delete .dbus directory on my HOME dir, etc), it never comes again
